Meet Dr. Cherrell Green
Dr. Cherrell Green is a visionary leader with over a decade of dedicated service reforming the administration of justice, particularly for marginalized communities. Her commitment to racial and social justice stems from early experiences supporting loved ones navigating the criminal legal system and coping with community gun violence. Throughout her career, Dr. Green has been a tireless advocate, researcher, evaluator, and technical assistance advisor working to dismantle inequitable systems and promote fair treatment for all.
As Managing Director of the Coalition to Advance Public Safety (CAPS), she drives national strategy and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen community-based violence intervention, ensuring lessons from the field inform policy and practice. Previously, she served as Associate Director of Engagement and Assessment at the Everytown Community Safety Fund, the nation’s largest funder of community-based violence intervention (CVI), where she worked closely with grantees to assess needs, provide targeted capacity-building and technical assistance, and ensure their work informed funding decisions—shaping where, how, and with whom the Fund invests. Dr. Green’s career also includes leadership in research and technical assistance at Justice System Partners and the Vera Institute of Justice, where she focused on pretrial reform, parole advocacy, and public health approaches to community violence. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis.
